Latest Eklund

Vermette deal closer? And Who is Talking to Mats? plus some more

Spent the day running around and spending some needed time with the kids. Yes it really is summer....Tonight I am going to dinner in the city and then COLDPLAY at the Wachovia with the stunning Mrs. Eklund who looks frigging amazing. I am a lucky, lucky man. Here is a quick update, but I may be updating late tonight as I am supposed to get a phone call from Sweden tonight at 1 am.From a source regarding Vermette...."The Canucks will make this move if and when the Mats situation resolves, but I am told that regardless of whether Mats decides to take the Canucks up on their offer or not, Vermette stands a strong chance of being a Canuck in the next few days..."Yes, that implies what you think it implies...that even the Canucks believe this is going to happen sooner than later. Pretty interesting on a lot of levels. On Mats...Reports are out today that the Leafs are in the running still, and I am told that Mats has had discussions with Leafs legend Borje Salming in regards to Salming's regrets of leaving the Leafs to end his career elsewhere. Mats does care a ton for Salming's opinion and Salming is the forefather to all Swedes and also one of the Leaf players whose number should be hanging in the rafters...Perhaps above all others...When he talks, Mats listens. The point to all of this is this: Mats is still a top flight player at this point. Salming, when he went to Detroit, was pretty much done (or so I am told). So the only reason Mats could be letting this sway him is that Mats truly cares about never putting on another team's sweater. And while certain people (MiB) may be mad at Mats for this, I do feel there is a certain honour to it all that should be acknowledged. Hell...loyalty is said to be dead in sports. Also I an looking into a report that the Sharks may have had some communication recently with Selanne. That could bring Teemu full circle and would be interesting. Also, the Flyers are not done I am hearing and still have interest in a "puck moving D-man" via the trade route...more on that tomorrow..
